Environmental Biology MSci

What will you study?

Lancaster's four-year Environmental Biology degree is taught by staff from the award-winning Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) and covers an immense scope - from molecular biology through to ecosystem ecology.

You'll learn about the relationships between organisms and their environment, including the study of animal behaviour and plant physiology, and you'll gain a solid understanding of mankind's impact on the environment. You'll also have the opportunity to take part in residential field courses to increase your subject knowledge and practical skills.

At the start of your degree, you'll follow core LEC modules -such as Environmental Issues; Environmental Processes, and Geosphere and Biosphere - along with a variety of subject-specific modules. In the following years, you'll be able to choose from Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science and Geography options to support your Environmental Biology courses. You'll conduct a research project on a relevant topic in your third year and an extended project in your final year.

Where could it take you?

Our graduates often find work in related fields, such as energy management or conservation. Others take on diverse roles within the pharmaceutical, forensic, food and medical industries.

Some recent graduates have used the skills they learned for roles in teaching or gone on to further studies in Biomedicine, forestry and forest ecosystem management, continuing at Lancaster or other institutions.

Lancaster University is dedicated to ensuring you not only gain a highly reputable degree, you also graduate with the relevant life and work based skills. We are unique in that every student is eligible to participate in The Lancaster Award which offers you the opportunity to complete key activities such as work experience, employability/career development, campus community and social development.
