The latest developments in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences:
RAE Success for BLS
December 2008
The Division has done extremely well in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, ranking joint first in the Allied Health Professions and Studies Unit of Assessment. 95% of the Division's research was judged as being of international significance, with 20% being world-leading. The Division has seen substantial recent investment and has made a number of new academic appointments in the past year.
The Division's success in the RAE reflects the wider success of the University as a whole. Professor Trevor McMillan, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research commented that "Lancaster can go forward with strong confidence that its reputation for research excellence , which is remarkable given the university's relatively small size , has been sustained. This external recognition for research excellence is made more significant when considering Lancaster's strong teaching record, its popularity amongst students, and the major impact that the university is making in its knowledge transfer activities which benefit the regional economy."
