Richard Walter Bursary PhD in Palliative Care

The Division of Health Research is pleased to offer a bursary for the part-time PhD in Palliative Care to an applicant from the United Kingdom or European Union. The award is for the duration of the course of study (subject to satisfactory progression) up to a maximum of £20,000 in total. It will contribute to programme fees along with travel and accommodation expenses for Lancaster-based sessions.

In order to be considered for scholarship funding applications must be made via the electronic MyLancaster applications portal. Applicant must have received an offer of a place on the PhD in Palliative Care scheme by the deadline date of May 31st 2011. The bursary will only be offered to an applicant registering to commence their studies in June 2011.

Application process

The application process is as follows:
  1. Applicants should complete an electronic application for a place on the chosen programme using the MyLancaster postgraduate applications portal
  2. Applicants must indicate in their personal statement that they wish to be considered for the bursary and why they consider themselves to be an outstanding applicant.
  3. Applicants should include a short outline (between 300-500 words) on their area of research interest.
  4. Applicants should provide two references with their electronic application. Normally, academic references should be provided.
  5. Applications received in the Division will be reviewed by 31st May 2011. Successful applicants will be notified in writing within two days of the awarding committee's decision.

Terms of the awards

The terms of the award are as follows:
  1. The bursary holder must be registered on the Doctoral Programme in Palliative Care in the Division of Health Research.
  2. The bursary will not be paid to holders of other scholarships, studentships, or the equivalent thereof. The Division reserves the right to withhold the bursary award in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding.
