Professor Colin Ockleford is Director of the Clinical Anatomy Learning Centre, a former member of Council of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland, a member of its meetings, research and investment committee. He is a Member of the Education Committee of the International Federation of Anatomical Associations and a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Colin is Chair of the Division of Medicine Research Committee and Divisional Post-Graduate Tutor. He is member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Pesticides, DEFRA one of the government's Regulatory Committees dealing with the approval of pesticides and selected biocides for marketing on a Europe wide basis. He is also a member of the Chemical Regulations Directorate Medical and Toxicology Panel and member of the Health and Safety Executive working party PAHES providing guidance on the improved collection and assessment of information concerning pesticides incidents. The European Food Safety Authority EFSA has approved his admission to a list of experts that may be called to help in their work.
He is also a Visiting Professor and Head of the Laboratory for Developmental Cell Sciences at Leicester University. His research work on reproductive immunopathology has led to the award of the Symington Prize, Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists and a D.Sc. from St Andrews University. He was recently a partner in the European Molecular Biology of Implantation Consortium (EMBIC) a network of excellence funded by the EU. Recently he has published an original description of an allo-epi-endothelium at the maternofetal interface and has noted its compositional changes in pre-eclampsia- a leading cause of maternal mortality in childbirth.
