Personal Introduction

Martin Loučka has recently joined the International Observatory on End of Life Care as a Research Associate and PhD student working as part of European Commission (FP7) funded EURO IMPACT network. The aim of the network is to enable early career researchers within palliative care to improve their research skills, join established research teams and enhance their career prospects.

Supervised by Prof Sheila Payne and Dr Sarah Brearley he will be working on collecting, updating and analysing data about the provision of palliative care across Europe, especially in Central and Eastern Europe. His work is also linked to the FP7 ATOME project. As part of EURO IMPACT Martin will be working alongside researchers from VU University Medical Center and EMGO Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he will be based for 6 months.

Martin has a BSc in Psychology and Social Work and an MSc in Psychology and moved from the Czech Republic to be part of the Observatory. He has an interest in paediatric palliative care and his previous work had been focused on the factors which influence the concept of death in children.
