Tony Gatrell is Professor of the Geography of Health at Lancaster University and Dean of the Faculty of Health & Medicine.
Prior to taking up this position he was Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and (from 1996-2004) was Director of the Institute for Health Research. Until 1996 he taught in the Department of Geography, where he arrived as a Lecturer in 1984.
Previously, he was a Lecturer in Geography at Salford University. This followed postgraduate study at Pennsylvania State University, where, under the supervision of the late Peter Gould, he received a Master's degree, then a PhD, in Geography. He held a Fulbright Scholarship at Penn State and for two years was a Graduate School Fellow.
