EURO IMPACT - Funding Success

The Observatory is part of a consortium which has just been awarded European Commission funding under Marie Curie Actions of Framework Programme 7. The programme is extremely competitive with only 7% of all applications receiving funding. The consortium will be developing an Initial Training Network (EURO IMPACT) within palliative care which will enable early stage researchers to improve their research skills, join established research teams and enhance their career prospects.

EURO IMPACT was launched on the 1st December 2010 and will run for four years. Enquiries about early-stage research positions should be made to Sarah Brearley.

Second Observatory PhD Student Success of 2010

We are further pleased to announce the success of Dr Tom Lynch in achieving his PhD with us, whose achievement follows hot on the heels of Dr Justin Wood.

Tom continues to work within the Observatory as a Research Associate, supporting colleagues in two ongoing projects.

New Report Published

Katherine Froggatt has recently published a report and personal portfolio based on a participatory study entitled "Improving public awareness of end of life issues among older people in North Lancashire: A peer education approach".

Observatory PhD Student Success

We are very pleased to announce the success of Dr Justin Wood in achieving his PhD with us.

Observatory PhD Student awarded funding from the BUPA Foundation

Jean Hennings, Observatory PhD Student and former Cancer Experiences Collaborative (CECo) Scholar, was recently awarded funding from the BUPA Foundation to undertake a pilot study looking at the needs of family members of people with advanced dementia, dying in care homes. This award was based on a research proposal submitted with the help of Professor Sheila Payne and Dr Katherine Froggatt.
