The Division of Health Research (DHR) Doctoral Scholarships

2013 - 2014

The Division of Health Research is pleased to offer up to 11 Postgraduate Research Scholarships to excellent applicants to its Distance Learning PhD programmes (in Mental Health, Palliative Care, Organisational Health and Wellbeing and Public Health). The value of each award will be £1000 per student. Awards will be made for one year only (the first year).

An applicant must have received an offer of a place on one of the above doctoral schemes by the deadline date of 22nd March 2013.

*Please note, applications must be completed a minimum of 10 days before the deadline date to ensure they receive an offer in time to be considered.

Studentships will only be offered to applicants registering to commence their studies in June 2013.

Application process
The application process is as follows:

  1. Applicants should have already completed an electronic application for a place on the chosen programme
  2. Applicants who wish to be considered for the scholarships must contact the PG Admissions office at: fhm-pg-admissions@lancaster.ac.uk to request a Division of Health Research Scholarship application form, this must be completed and returned to them before the deadline of 22nd March 2013
  3. An applicant must have received an offer of a place by 21st March 2013
  4. All outstanding supporting documentation must be uploaded to the electronic application by 22nd March 2013. Applications and the Scholarship application form received in the Division will be reviewed by the end of April 2013. Successful applicants will be notified in writing via e-mail within seven days of the awarding committee's decision
  5. Where an applicant has not yet completed their undergraduate or Master's level qualification, any award made will be conditional upon a satisfactory degree result.

Terms of the awards
The terms of the award are as follows:

  1. Award holders must be registered on either the Taught Doctorate in Mental Health; Doctoral Programme in Organisational Health and Wellbeing; the Doctoral Programme in Palliative Care or the Doctoral Programme in Public Health in the Division of Health Research.
  2. Scholarships will not be paid to holders of other bursaries, studentships, or the equivalent thereof. The Division reserves the right to withhold the scholarship award in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding.
  3. Scholarship awards will be allocated to successful students in the form of a fees reduction.
