Welcome to LUKC, the only Athletics Union affiliated martial arts club on Lancaster University campus! We are a friendly and sociable club for students and staff, that represents the University in competition, and trains twice a week on campus. We are affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain and have lots of fun both in and out of the dojo!

LUKC was pleased to host Andy Sherry for the Summer term grading. Two years of hard work paid off for those who got their Purple White belt and a year of hard work paid off for those grading to Yellow belt, along side those grading to Red belt. The club maintained its 100% pass record, and we are incredibly proud of all those who graded!

Abiola Oladipo recieved his black belt on on the Sunday 27th of March at Kendal Leisure Centre. Abi has been with LUKC since 2008, joining as a complete beginner. He instantly found his form in karate, going from white belt to red belt during his first grading in March 2009 – achieving the rare accomplishment of skipping orange belt.
For 90 minutes Abi trained hard alongside over 100 other karate brown belts under the instruction of Sensei Sherry, chief instructor and chairman of the Karate Union of Great Britain and assisted by Sensei Brennan.
When the training was over 50 brown belts moved to a private room to attempt the black belt grading. Abi had to demonstrate proficiency in basic karate strikes, kicks and blocks followed by the performance of an advanced level kata. Abi then had to fight against another brown belt before doing a second kata. This grading is a grueling 30 minutes of fierce and intense karate where the karate student is pushed further than they have ever been before.
LUKC head instructor Keith Robson watched Abi pass his Black belt exam and was delighted with Abi’s success. Keith said “A Black belt karate exponent never forgets his or her Black belt grading. I am very proud and pleased for Abi.”

Despite clashing with Roses 2012, LUKC were able to send two members plus our instructor to compete at this event in Birmingham. This prestigious event had an excellent atmosphere and our instructor was only defeated in Kata just prior to reaching the finals.
Every year the sports teams of Lancaster University face off against York's sports teams. Lancaster hosted the event in 2012 and we beat York 3-1! Victories came in male team Kumite, male Team Kata, female team Kata whilst our only loss was female team Kata. We look forward to visiting York in 2013 and hopefully continuing our run of success.
LUKC did well at this years Kyu Grades competition in Prestatyn. Aaron Melayu and Yingying Zhang did extremely well to come 3rd in Senior Mens Individual Kumite and Senior Ladies Ippon Kumite respectively.

This year's team for BUCS 2012 in Sheffield. The team put in some strong performances across many different events and an excellent weekend was had by all.

In March, LUKC hosted Andy Sherry for the Lent term grading. The club maintained its 100% pass record, and we are incredibly proud of all those who graded. Enjoy your new belts and have a good Easter!
