Collectible Card Games & Board Games
Magic: The Gathering
Wikipedia:
Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game created by mathematics professor Richard Garfield and introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. Magic is the first example of the modern collectible card game genre and still thrives today, with an estimated six million players in over seventy countries.[3] Magic can be played by two or more players each using a deck of printed cards or a deck of virtual cards through the Internet-based Magic: The Gathering Online or third-party programs.
Blood Bowl
Richard Cowen:
Blood Bowl is set in an alternate version of the Warhammer setting, in which warfare has been replaced by an extremely bloody sport surprisingly similar to our world's American football.
Played on a beautifully illustrated board, with models representing each of your players, Blood Bowl is great fun to play, and significantly quicker (and cheaper) than the larger scale wargames.
FRAG
Laura Mitchell:
FRAG is a boardgame based upon first person shooter style computer games such as Doom, basically you kill the other players, you respawn, you grab the best weapons and try again. The player with the most kills wins. It is really basic and easy to learn, and very amusing! Games can be short or long, dependant mostly on the number of players.
World of Warcraft TCG
Laura Mitchell:
WoW TCG is a cardgame similar to Magic: The Gathering, using player-built decks. The main difference between the two is the lack of 'resource' cards. In WoW, any card can be a resource. It is based on the MMORPG of the same name, and there are options for player-versus player, or cooperative play against a 'monster' deck, such as the Onyxia's Lair deck.
As a new player to this sort of game, I find the rules a little complex to begin with, but once you get the hang of it, it's great fun. winning depends as much on strategy as the cards in your deck, so it is easily possible to play with the same deck many times to get multiple enjoyment from it!
