ALAN BADDELEY (02/12/09)
posted by: Dave on 23rd November, 2009 at 12:58.
Hey all,
Alan Baddeley has been invited by PsychSoc to come and speak to us about his work involving working memory. He is one of the most renowned contemporary psychologists.
DATE: 2ND DECEMBER 2009 (WED WEEK 9)
VENUE: MANAGEMENT SCHOOL LECTURE THEATRE 3
DURATION: 4PM - 5:15PM
Guys this is an excellent opportunity for all those interested in studying cognitive psychology, or in particular those of you in first year at the moment. In the second year there are weeks of cognitive psychology and in particular this concerns the working memory model developed by Baddeley and Hitch.
This really is a huge opportunity for everyone to gain a real insight into the work of practicing research psychologists, and also a chance to establish some grounding for an understanding of some of the most groundbreaking work within the forum of Cognitive Psychology.
The talk will be universally tailored to include undergraduate, postgraduate and staff interests :-)
hope to see you there,

PsychSoc BBQ on the 17th of June (Week 9):
- A BBQ is being planned to occur on the above date.
- Society members and staff can attend.
- More info coming soon, so watch this space!
Guest speakers:
- A list of guest speakers has been compiled. We are aiming to get one per term (starting first term of the next academic year).
- Speakers will be from other universities, but we also plan on having member of our own department give talks on their research.
The website is up:
- As you can tell, the website has now been launched! Check on here for news on society activity and events, updates to the social calendar and pictures from the latest socials/events.
- The website aims to supplement the emails that you get sent with news!
- Finally, a big thank-you to Nicola Crane for building our website. I’m sure you will agree that she has done a fantastic job on it.
Hoodies and membership
posted by: on 3rd November, 2008 at 9:05.
We have decided on five of the popular phrases you've all been talking about to go on the hoodies. They are:
- 'Does the name Pavlov ring any bells?'
- 'Nature vs Nurture, either way it's your parents fault.'
- 'Psychologists do it in the Levy Lab.'
- 'I took the Psycho-path.'
- 'Just another nut in the chocolate bar of life.'
You will all have a chance to vote!
We are in the process of making the ballot slips and the boxes where you will be able to tick ONE of your favourites as your choice and also specify what colour you want the hoody and the writing to be.
We will let you know when these are available and when you can start voting.
You will only have a week to vote, so get a leg-on.
The membership fee will be £3. This will be paid, along with the filling out and payment of hoody forms, at the RE-FRESHERS FAIR at the beginning of 2nd term. You MUST come and sign-up as it will be your only chance to order hoodies, give us your details and apply for a membership card (which you need to be in psychsoc).
Put it in your diary!
I will keep you posted on whats happening about the ballot boxes and when. Also Rachel needs loads of ideas for socials, so harrass her as much as you can with emails!
