I work as a Unix Systems Administrator within Information Systems Services at Lancaster University.

Work things

• almost-homegrown: Link-farm for user's own compiled programs that do not have a home either within the solaris install, or the homegrown section, within the Interactive Unix Service at Lancaster.
• Virtualisation:
  • Disaster Tolerance using Virtual Machines: Provide (free!) disaster tolerance below the operating system layer using VMware Server or Xen.
  • Configuring VMware guests: The 'perfect' configuration for VMware guests.
  • The university's central VMware Virtual Infrastructure deployment.
• Looking after the University's unofficial Jabber Service.

Fun things

• Home temperature monitoring and heating control.
• A model railway in the attic.
