Preparing for your postgraduate studies at Lancaster
If you are applying for a postgraduate programme at Lancaster and you have taken an approved English language test, but you have not met the minimum entry requirement for your chosen course, we have a range of pre-sessional English language courses.
Course content
The courses are designed to help you bridge the gap between your current English language score and the normal minimum entry requirement of your degree programme i.e. IELTS 6.5 or 7.0. They are also intended to develop your study skills and help you get used to studying at Lancaster, which should help you to be more successful in your academic programme. The courses are between 4 and 40 weeks in length, depending on the level of your English when you apply.

*Please note that if you are applying to the Management School you must have a score of IELTS 6.0 or IELTS 6.5 or equivalent to be eligible for our pre-sessional courses.
Assessment
You will be assessed with a mixture of coursework and examination. At the end of the course, you will receive a transcript, which will show your English level. You do not have to retake the IELTS exam.
