Course Overview
The purpose of the programme is to support the development of advanced knowledge and skills in clinical research among doctors, health practitioners and healthcare scientists who are either actively engaged in research, or whose future career plans involve a significant research component. The programme:
- Addresses the complete cycle of clinical research, from identifying research questions, and designing and managing research studies, through to translating research findings into professional practice.
- Equips health professionals to lead the implementation of comprehensive evaluation and critical delivery of new treatments and interventions within their organisations, and to support effectively the processes of discovery and innovation across a wide range of health settings.
- Draws upon the breadth of interdisciplinary research skills and internationally-recognised research expertise housed within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, complemented by specialist knowledge and practical experience from within NHS partner organisations.
Successful completion of the programme will enable professionals to:
- Lead and participate in research projects, new initiatives and related activities to advance research practice locally and nationally.
- Support further development of NHS capability and infrastructure for research.
- Contribute to the integration and utilisation of research knowledge and related skills to enhance the quality of professional practice.
Modules:
The programme is modular, with a tiered-exit design providing one or two module awards as appropriate for participants who do not complete all three modules of the PgCert.
Completion of the programme may provide routes to progress to PG Diploma or MSc.
The overall programme comprises three modules:

- Governance and Management of Clinical Research
- Turning Research Evidence into Healthcare Policy and Practice
