Living Costs and Tuition Fees
At postgraduate level, you will have two principal types of expenditure: tuition fees and living costs. You may view a suggested budget on our student services site.
Tuition Fees
Postgraduate tuition fees vary depending upon which subject area you are studying within, as well as your place of normal residence, nationality and mode of study. For UK and EU students, postgraduate fees at Lancaster start at £3,828 for research programmes and £5,500 for taught programmes, per year for full-time study. Fees for students from other countries differ, but many start from around £12,000 per year.
Living Costs
Living costs in Lancaster compare very favourably to those in other urban areas. Nevertheless, we recommend that postgraduate students have approximately £8,800 to support themselves each year. Expenditure on accommodation, household costs, social and incidental expenses varies according to your lifestyle and personal circumstances; we suggest that you plan your budget once you have identified your preferred accommodation options, as housing costs are likely to be the principal expenditure you face. Please note that for students requiring a visa to study in the UK, the Border Agency of the UK Government prescribes a minimum value of funding which you must be able to access in order to cover your fees and living expenses.
