Course Overview

Lancaster's four-year combined degree scheme is taught jointly by the Department of European Languages and Cultures and the Department of Linguistics and English Language which is ranked in the top ten by The Complete University Guide 2013.  

Your degree offers a stimulating blend of academic study and hands-on experience gained through a year in Spain. Your language studies are complemented by courses that develop a deeper understanding of Spanish society, culture, history and politics.

Your first year modules include the Introduction to English Language and Spanish Studies (Intensive or Advanced). In your second year, you'll study subjects such as English Sounds and Structures; Stylistics; Cinema and Society in Europe and Latin America: Thematic and Formal Perspectives, and Catalan Language Level 1. Your third year abroad will make a major contribution to your command of the language, while deepening your intercultural sensitivity. You can then take courses on Corpus-based English Language Studies; Linguistics Methodology; Spanish Written and Oral Skills, and Living Against Franco in your final year.
