Careers

A foreign language is among the most attractive items on any CV and a bilingual degree opens a number of career doors. Many of our language graduates choose to work abroad, teaching English as a foreign language, or joining organisations like the British Council, Diplomatic or Civil Service. Others have found openings in international business.

In the UK, popular career choices include accountancy, librarianship, computing, teaching, advertising and journalism.

A number of our alumni choose to extend their education before entering the workplace. Lancaster has highly-regarded postgraduate opportunities for language graduates, as well as a number of practical training courses in specialist areas like interpreting or journalism.

Lancaster University is dedicated to ensuring you not only gain a highly reputable degree, but that you also graduate with relevant life and work based skills. We are unique in that every student is eligible to participate in The Lancaster Award which offers you the opportunity to complete key activities such as work experience, employability/career development, campus community and social development.
