You will be taught by academic staff who are internationally respected performance practitioners and theorists and you will benefit from the excellent facilities and the access to professional practice provided by our close relationship with 'Live at LICA', especially the Nuffield Theatre. The unique interdisciplinary environment provided by LICA will enrich your studies and you can either focus solely on Theatre or choose to take some modules led by art, design, music or film.
The first year serves as a foundation for your studies, introducing theoretical and practical tools and exploring a variety of genres, media and historical periods, ranging from Shakespeare to postmodern theatre. The year culminates in a group performance project. These studies are complemented by the interdisciplinary module Modernism in the Arts.
In your second year you will take the core modules Performance Composition and Critical Reflections (contemporary arts theory) and choose from options including a media and performance module and a major production project. In your final year you will take modules in contemporary performance, write a dissertation and choose to create a final degree show. Optional modules are also available in contemporary dance, contemporary British and European playwrights, popular performance and television drama. In addition to these modules two vocationally orientated modules, LICA Work Placement and Creative Entrepreneurship, are available in your second and final years.
