Fairtrade Fortnight Events

We’re celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight 2013 in a variety of ways, enabling more people to get involved and raise awareness of the importance of using Fairtrade products.

Banana Fun Run

Monday 25th February, 1.15pm at the Astroturf Pitches

Join us for a 2 mile fancy dress, banana-themed cross-country Fun Run to help launch Fairtrade Fortnight.

The course will take advantage of the Woodland Trail and campus grounds and the event is open to all University staff and students but entry numbers are limited to 150. All parcipants must run holding a Fairtrade Banana (not provided) and are asked to dress in yellow clothing and be imaginave with the yellow banana fancy dress theme!

There will be four Fairtrade Hampers on offer for the following prize winners:

  • Best Dressed Male
  • Best Dressed Female
  • First Male to cross the finish line
  • First Female to cross the finish line

The event is being organised by Facilities, supported by Green Lancaster student volunteers. Runners are asked to try and raise money for the Fairtrade Foundation by collecting sponsorship. Online pre-registraon is essential due to limited entry numbers. Regrettably, the route is not accessible to wheelchairs.

Fairtrade Afternoon Tea

Available everyday throughout Fairtrade Fortnight at The Lounge, County South

Fairtrade Tea or Coffee with a Fairtrade Cake for just £2.50 - choose from banana bread, chocolate & coffee brownie and carrot & vanilla cake.  Available at The Lounge, County South.

Coffee Tasting & Illustrated Talk

Wednesday 6th March, 12.00pm at the County South Private Dining Rooms

Learn the fascinating story of how coffee is grown and produced at the specific producers Atkinson's source from. Find out how Fairtrade and direct trade benefit these producers, their local communities and help the environment. You will also be able to taste the coffee from these producers as Ian Steel, from Atkinson's, will be brewing up during the talk!
