Lancaster University is committed to providing a safe, convenient and affordable method for staff and students to commute to campus from East Lancashire. The East Lancs Bus Service has been succeeded by the East Lancs Lift Share Scheme. Car sharing is an integral part of our Travel Plan, and involves two or more people sharing their journey and travelling together. It allows people to benefit from the convenience of the car whilst saving money by reducing mileage and petrol costs, alleviating parking problems, congestion and pollution.
If you commute to Lancaster University from one of the following towns or surrounding areas, then you are eligible to join the East Lancs Lift Share Scheme: Blackburn, Burnley, Clitheroe, Colne, Darwen or Nelson.
Incentives for drivers include
- Free annual campus parking permit
- Free membership to the East Lancashire Lift Share Scheme, through Sharedwheels
- Petrol costs of journey reimbursed by passengers
- Other savings and discounts
Incentives for passengers include
- Free membership to the East Lancashire Lift Share Scheme, through Sharedwheels
- Guaranteed ride home scheme
- Flexibility and freedom to arrange your own transport to campus, at a convenient time for you.
Lancaster University have teamed up with Liftshare.com, providers of Sharedwheels.com, to supply a secure, private car share group to all Lancaster University staff and students.
Finding matches is free, quick and easy
1. Visit our page at Liftshare.com
2. Fill out the registration form and wait to be emailed your password.
3. Once you have received your password log back in to your account and enter the details of any journeys you want to make.
4. The system then searches for all colleagues who may be a potential match.
5. If a match is not found your journey will be logged and you will be contacted as soon a potential match is found, alternatively you can opt to search for a match from the national database.
6. Once you have registered on the system, drivers should complete a Driver's Agreement form to register for a free parking permit and other benefits.
7. Passengers should complete a Passenger's Agreement form, to be eligible for entry into the regular prize draw.
8. Drivers should then download a Journey Log Sheet for Drivers. Completed forms should be sent to the East Lancs Travel Office, University House, via internal post or email..
The larger the database the greater the chance of finding a match, so please encourage your friends and neighbours to register.
If you would like help with registering, or to find out more please contact us.
Newsflash: A special prize draw will be held on June 9th 2009, to celebrate National LiftShare Day, so return your forms by then for a chance to win!
