Responsibilities of the office
The Ceremonies and Events Office is responsible for organising Degree Ceremonies for the conferment of Bachelor and Higher Degrees upon successful candidates from Lancaster University, Edge Hill University and the University of Cumbria. It is also the responsibility of the Office to make arrangements for the conferment of Honorary Degrees.
General information
Congregations for the conferment of Bachelor and Higher Degrees (more commonly known as Graduation Ceremonies), take place in the Great Hall of Lancaster University in July for Undergraduates and in December for Postgraduates.
Detailed information, in the form of a brochure which includes an application form to attend a ceremony, is sent out early in March to undergraduates and early in October to postgraduates. Postgraduates due to attend a December Ceremony Session should notify the Postgraduate Studies Office of any home address change by early September.
Ceremony tickets and timetables are sent out to undergraduates at College addresses during the first week of June and to postgraduates at home addresses during the first week of November.
We try our best to let all those who ask for them have up to two guest tickets. Any requests for more than two are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Small children do not need a ticket if they sit on a guest's knee.
At the busier Summer Session the Ceremonies can be viewed on a 'LIVE VIDEO LINK' in Faraday Lecture Theatre for which tickets are not required.
Undergraduate ceremonies - July
Postgraduate ceremonies - December
At the July Ceremonies students graduate by College and the timetable is decided in February. At the December Ceremonies students graduate by Faculty and the Timetable is decided in October. Details will be posted on this site when they are available.
Academical dress
Academical dress must be worn by graduands attending Ceremonies. The official Robemaker for Lancaster University is Wippell of Exeter. Robes can be hired or purchased at their website or by contacting Wippell on 01392 254234 for an application form. Normal wear under robes is a suit and tie for men and a plain dress or skirt/trouser suit for ladies.
