WELCOME TO THE BUDDHISM CAMPUS HOMEPAGE
People are drawn to find out about Buddhism for many reasons. Some want to try out its rich tradition of meditation. Some want to find a deeper perspective on their lives or to find ways of helping them resolve or come to terms with difficult issues. Others are interested in Buddhist ideas or are studying religion academically. All are welcome to the various Buddhist activities on campus or in the area.
On campus there are various ways to learn about and practice Buddhism and meditation. There are different traditions and styles of practice, and for many people it is a matter of trying things out and seeing what resonates for you. Click on the above hyperlinks for details about the different Buddhist groups which meet on campus, and about the variety of Buddhist groups in the Lancaster area. At each you will receive a warm welcome and be offered the freedom to explore whether their style and approach suits you or not.
In Intro week there will be a session 5-

The Quiet Room – Lancaster University Chaplaincy Centre
People become interested in meditation for many reasons such as a need to find a deeper perspective, to come to terms with stress, or because of a personal crisis. However, it is not always easy to find the motivation to follow a consistent and stable meditation practice. The group provides a regular focus where we can meditate with others, draw encouragement and learn from them, and examine how Buddhist insights can help us practically in living from a deeper perspective.
In the type of meditation we practise at the group, called serene reflection meditation (zazen), we learn to sit still with an open and alert mind, accepting thoughts and feelings that arise, without judging them. Through practising meditation, we learn to be more present to our everyday experience. The practice enables a profound transformation to take place as we allow the innate compassion, love and wisdom in us to express itself in our diverse lives.
