Cumberland Lodge

This school aims to acquaint post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers with novel concepts and modern theoretical methods used in the physics of mesoscopic systems, hybrid (superconductor, ferromagnetic, semiconductor, normal metal) nano-structures, localisation and low-dimensional magnetism. The programme of lecture courses will give insight into both standard perturbative and recently emerged non-perturbative analytical methods, such as the field theory techniques, conformal field theories and random matrix theory, together with their application to real systems. Theory lectures will be complemented by reviews of advanced experiments on mesoscopic electron systems and research seminars.

The Organising Committee is able to provide junior researchers from the EC and East European countries with a number of travelling support and participation grants. Deadline for grant applications: 15 May 1999. Registration fee: £70 if paid by 01.06.99, and £90 if paid upon arrival. Full board accommodation for 2 weeks in St Catharine's Cumberland Lodge in the heart of Windsor Great Park: shared double room - £450, single - £600.
