INTRODUCTION

This annual list covers books, articles, computer programmes, media material and art exhibitions dated and published or mounted in 1992, together with any items not included in previous years. Entries are arranged primarily by department, then by year of publication and alphabetically by author. Students' names are distinguished by an asterisk and those of non-members of the university by a cross (+). The practice concerning the abbreviation of titles of periodicals is in line with British Standard 4148, Part I, 1970 and Part 2, 1975.

It should be noted that the information provided by departments for this listing was also used for the purpose of providing publication returns to the CVCP. All publications which were eligible for the latter were taken into account when providing the CVCP with the necessary information, but some publications, most notably reviews of single books, have not been included in this listing. Papers which are simply presented at a conference (i.e. not included in any form of conference proceedings) were explicitly excluded by the CVCP and have also not been included here.
