Modelling Strategic Problems Group:

Interested in ‘soft’ operational research?

Part of the younger generation?

We are inviting all young* practitioners, PhDs and academics of ‘soft’ Operational Research to join this network group.  The intention is to develop a community of practice for those engaged in soft OR. Hopefully we can exchange experiences and act as a resource for one another. The group meets several times a year and aims to further debate on how we (the younger generation) can drive the future development of ‘soft OR’ practice.

The programmes involve a range of activities to stimulate  structured debate over 1-2 days. This includes theoretical and practical presentations; expositions and training on soft methods; knowledge transfer and skill development; learning by doing and practising techniques; guest speakers from the 1st generation; reading groups; promoting industry and academic collaboration;

We are aiming to maintain a small group of individuals with a wide range of interests and backgrounds. If you wish to participate, please complete the application form.

Meetings:

·        Lancaster April 10-11, 2002 Programme and report

·        Edinburgh July 9, 2002 workshop

·        Portsmouth September 9-10, 2002 (provisional dates) invite

Further meetings are planned at Aston University, Birmingham in December 2002; London and Scotland in 2003.

Themes for future meetings include how to sell soft-OR consultancy; how to transfer or learn the skills of soft-OR; and improving current problem structuring methods.
