MA TESOL at the Chinese University of Hong Kong

This Lancaster MA is designed specifically for English language professionals resident in Hong Kong who have at least three years' language teaching experience. It is a two-year, part-time degree which is designed so that language professionals can gain a Lancaster MA while continuing to work in Hong Kong.

The MA is a collaborative venture between Lancaster and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lancaster staff do all the teaching in short intensive blocks, and the teaching takes place in the School of Continuing Studies in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which also provides administrative and learning support (e.g. library access). The aim of the MA is to provide professionally relevant and practically oriented TESOL training that is tailored to the needs of local English teachers.

The following degree programme is taught at our partner institution and is offered full time:

MA In Applied Linguistics: Double Degree, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, People's Repubic of China

Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Programme length: 30 months

Audience: Students of Linguistics in China interested in the unique opportunity to gain a Masters degree from both Lancaster and Shanghai Jiao Tong universities.

This new MA programme is a collaborative venture between Lancaster and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). It is designed specifically for students of Linguistics who would like to achieve an MA degree from both these leading universities in the field of Linguistics. In the case of Lancaster University the degree awarded will be the MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MATEFL).

Admission to this programme is through Shangahi Jiaotong University. Studets spend one semester (September to December) in Lancaster during the normal duration of the first year of the SJTU degree programme. The remainder of the Lancaster courses are taught at SJTU by SJTU staff. There is a shared dissertation.

Aims:

The aim of the MA is to provide professionally relevant and practically oriented training in Applied Linguistics. The programme provides a balance between practice-led, theory-led and research-led learning opportunities.
