Flight Arrangements
There are many organisations offering reduced-rate flights for students and we suggest you contact them as well as your local travel agent in order to learn of possibilities. One choice for North American students is Travelcraft in New York. TravelCraft can issue the International Student ID card, the Hostelpass, and various rail passes as well as air tickets. Be sure to mention that you will be a student at Lancaster University.
There is no airport in Lancaster. The nearest and most convenient international airport is at Manchester (about 60 miles away). We strongly advise you to fly into Manchester if possible. If your long-haul flight arrives at Heathrow or Gatwick, do ask your travel agent about an "add-on" shuttle flight from either of these airports to Manchester. It should not cost much, and is much less hassle than taking the subway or train into London, getting across London to Euston Station and taking a train to Lancaster.
There are direct train services from Manchester airport to Lancaster. Check National Rail for train schedules. Taxis are always waiting at Lancaster station – just ask the driver to take you directly to your college.
