Packing
PACK LIGHT! PACK LIGHT! PACK LIGHT!
While each residence room has a chest of drawers and a closet, these may be smaller than you are used to, and other storage space is limited. And you'll want to have room for purchases you'll undoubtedly make while abroad.
At Lancaster there is no emphasis on how a student dresses. Bring clothes that you would wear at home. Jeans, cargo pants etc. are perfectly acceptable for wearing to class, and will probably be your standard attire, worn with a teeshirt, sweatshirt, and/or sweater. Plan to bring at least one outfit for dressier events (dress, skirt, suit jacket, smart trousers etc.).
Bring clothes that are washable and require minimum care. Many rooms have their own sinks and there are common rooms for hand laundering and drip-drying in each college. There are also two laundromats on campus. Dry cleaning, on the other hand, is more expensive.
Your bedding pack contains a sheet, duvet, pillow, and pillowcase. If you declined to purchase a bedding pack you will have to either bring these yourself or buy them when you get to Lancaster. However, please note that the nearest bedding shop to the university is some 3 miles away in the centre of town and the bedding there will cost you considerably more than the university bedding pack. Curtains are provided. Non-allergenic pillows are available on request. However, you do need to bring towels.
