The Library Edition of the Works of John Ruskin, edited by Cook and Wedderburn, has been available on CD-ROM for many years: changing technology has led to it becoming unusable for some readers - particularly those using Windows 7 and Mac systems. This pdf version, created by John Krug (Library Systems Co-ordinator, Lancaster University) and Jen Shepherd (Ruskin Library and Research Centre), makes it available to all once again.
The only software needed is Adobe Reader 9 or later (Reader X is now available), free from Adobe's website. There have been some changes in Reader recently - those who have been using the 'works' for some time will notice a difference, although not all the volumes have been altered to the new format yet.
The work is by no means complete: at present only volumes1-19 are available, which includes Modern Painters (Volumes 3-7), The Seven Lamps of Architecture (Volume 8), The Stones of Venice (Volumes 9-11) and the 'Edinburgh Lectures' (Volume 12). The General Index - volume 39, published in 1912 - is also available. Links to all the volumes can be found further down the page. |
