SCC.460 - Data Science Fundamentals

This module is part of the curriculum of the MSc programme in Data Science. In the first five weeks, SCC.460 is jointly delivered with SCC.400 (Research Methods) to students pursuing MSc degrees in Data Science and in Computer Science. Key topics include: roots of data science; data collection and integration; hypothesis testing and prediction models; visualisation and analysis of results. Invited guests from companies deliver talks related to data problems that they were presented with and solutions that they considered. In the second part of the module, Data Science students are divided into groups and work on group projects defined by partner companies.

Module statistics shown below include the number of students who were enrolled on the module, the number of students who completed the module evaluation report, and the average score in the category "module as a whole". Initially, I shared the module with Dr Keith Cheverest, who was the module convenor as indicated by the asterisk (*) next to his name. The responsibility for delivering the lectures and overseeing group work fell on me in 2022-2023.
