An absolutely fantastic musical the plot follows Tevye, a poor milkman. As the father of five daughters he attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each daughter's choice of husband moves progressively further away from established customs—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

An Ideal Husband
By Oscar Wilde

6th/7th June @ the Nuffield Theatre

Performances begins @ 7.30pm

Undoubtedly one of Oscar Wilde's best plays, An Ideal Husband is set at the heart of London high society at the end of the 1800s. Described as "a dazzling blend of sex and politics, comedy and morality", the story follows an eventful 24 hours during which we watch a notorious socialite blackmail a leading politician and the dramatic chain of events this triggers! This play contains some of the most famous Wilde quotations, such as "Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast" and "One should never give a woman anything she can't wear in the evening", and features the only character Wilde ever based upon himself. In short, it's a fantastic play, and hopefully to be performed in the Nuffield Theatre Fri and Sat Week 7!

The Beggar's Opera
By John Gay

14th/15th June @ the Dukes Youth Theatre

Performances begins @ 8pm

Don't let the “Opera” bit of the title throw you off. This is not going to be a big musical. Instead, we shall be performing the arias like poetry or verse. The Beggar's Opera is the tale of Peachum, thief-taker and informer, conspiring to send the dashing and promiscuous highwayman Macheath to the gallows. It turns traditional opera on its head using popular ballads and indulging in political satire at the expense of the Prime Minister. Gay's highly original depiction of the thieves, informers, prostitutes and highwaymen thronging the slums and prisons of the corrupt London underworld exposes the dark side of a corrupt and jaded society.

Ticket prices:

£6/£5 students and concessions/£4 LUTG members
