2017 marked the passing of the County College’s Vice Principal, Dr Steve ‘Stig’ Dempster. Steve was an alumnus of Lancaster University, having completed his BA, MA and PhD at the university before taking up his lectureship here in 2014.

Steve embodied the values of Lancaster University and was a true stalwart of the County College. From the early stage of his postgraduate studies, he was actively involved in college life; first as a College Tutor, then as College Dean for 10 years and finally as the Vice-Principal.

Steve genuinely cared about students and understood that the colleges represented more than a place of residence; that they offer a community for both staff and students to learn from each other outside the confines of the classroom.

Lancaster University ran through Steve’s veins and he will be greatly missed by colleagues and students, past and present.
