Background
Committed to the continuous improvement of the care provided, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) is keen to support a research project that aims to evaluate how carers experience the services they receive.

The study focuses on the triangle of care in mental health, consisting of service users, relatives, and health professionals. The study will explore how relatives of people with mental health problems experience the support they receive, whether they are satisfied, and how this can be improved.

Study Aims
This will allow us to enhance our understanding of: -

• How well the service meets the carers' needs for support
• Carers' experience of support available within the Trust
• The potential barriers in carers accessing the support they need

Data gathered and results generated from this research exercise will inform specific interventions that aim to change the culture of carers' involvement in the management and support of service users with mental health problems.

Who will be taking part?
31 participants from within the Brent Borough area took part in the study. This consisted of 10 people with a mental health diagnosis, 11 relatives, and 10 health professionals. Service users were between 18 and 65 years old. Relatives and health professionals were aged over 18, with no upper age limit.

This report is the CNWL commissioned independent review of some of the Trust wide initiatives provided or developed by the Trust in an attempt to map the services that carers currently receive or have access to, and the ways that these could be improved.
