Tizard insisted that flight logs be very detailed. He was then shocked to read the following log: '9.41 a.m. Climbing at 48 knots. Passed a seagull, flying backwards'.

About Us

Jamie Fairbrother

Jamie FairbrotherI recently joined the new STOR-i doctoral training centre after completing an undergraduate degree in Mathematics the University of Warwick. Operational research played a huge part in the Second World War for the allies and I hope this website demonstrates how scientific but often counter-intuitive ideas vastly improved the effectiveness in the deployment of their forces.

Tim Park

Timothy ParkI am a currently a PhD student in statistics and operational research at Lancaster University. I previously studied physics at Lancaster. I was also able to have a year exchange at the University of California San Diego. During this exchange I took a class on the History of Atomic weapons. This sparked my interest in the scientific advances during WW2 including the beginnings of O.R.

Bethan Turner

Bethan TurnerI am currently studying for a Masters in Statistics and Operational Research at Lancaster University, with the intention of moving on to a PhD in the same fields. I have always been interested in the origins of the fields that I study but until this project have never before had an opportunity to look into this. I hope you find these pages as interesting as I have!
