SCC.414 - Advanced Communication Systems

This 7-week module aimed to introduce students to advanced concepts of communication systems and build upon knowledge gained in previous modules. The module covered established communication techniques, such as: encoding and decoding of Hamming, convolutional and cyclic codes; coded-modulation and turbo-coding techniques; temporal and spectral diversity; spatial diversity techniques for multiple antenna systems. Emerging techniques, that would either be incorporated in next generation systems or were being researched at the time, were also introduced. Examples included but were not limited to: fountain coding and network coding; green communications; cooperative networks; cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum sharing. Delivery of SCC.404 stopped when the MSc programme in Wireless Communication Systems was discontinued in 2018.

Since the introduction of SCC.414 in the curriculum, I have been the module convenor, as indicated by the asterisk (*) that appears next to each academic year in the list below (e.g., 2015*). Module statistics include the number of students who were enrolled on the module, the number of students who completed the module evaluation report, and the average score in the category "module as a whole".
